エディンバラの出版人ジョージ・トムソンが集めたアイルランドの旋律25曲に、歌とヴァイオリン、チェロ、ピアノの伴奏を付けた曲集。1810年から1813年にかけて書かれ、1814年にトムソンの『A Select Collection of Original Irish Airs』に収めて刊行された。歌は1声または2声で、弦の2パートは省いても演奏できる形をとる。トムソンは当初、詞の執筆をアイルランドの詩人トマス・ムーアに依頼したが、ムーアは引き受けなかった。
